Uni Staff Golf Champions 2023

In the Boase Quaich, the University’s singles competition, Cameron Little took advantage of the Cupar golf course and its requirement to be able to play from a horizontal position on the slopes of St Andrews’ smaller neighbour. Fighting for the glory of HR, Cameron managed to edge out Euan Crabb, who was unlucky in both the staff finals. Rumours that he would move everyone who played in the competition up a pay grade by way of celebration have proven to be unfounded, but there is always next year. The University staff fourball trophy was taken by Andrew Henderson and Tam McMullen, from Estates. Having shown that little could stop them on their way to the coveted Claret Jug, they approached the final with an extra trick up their sleeves, in which Tam had trained a dog to pick up his opponents’ golf balls and drop them in some inaccessible jungle. The plan misfired when the useless mutt actually ran off with Tam’s own ball, never to be seen again. Notwithstanding this mishap, the two gentlemen saw off a spirited challenge by Hammy Hamlyn and Euan Crabb in a match that was played in the good spirits that this event is designed to foster.
