Uni Staff Golf Champions 2025

The Boase Quach singles final was held on a cold but crystal-clear Saturday. After teaming up in the 4-ball earlier in the season, Cameron Little and Ned Wright already knew each other’s tricks, and unfortunately for Ned, Cameron remembered. He burst out of the gates with birdie-par to go 2 up, but a couple of friendly shot holes later, both were back level by the 5th tee. And that was the story of the day: punch, counter-punch, nobody quite landing the knockout. The standard remained extremely high on a windy Panmure with all but 15 holes being won with par or better. Cameron rolled in a birdie on 17 to go 1 up playing the last. Nerves were beginning to jangle when both players missed the green on 18. Cameron’s par putt slipped by, Ned’s limped in, and off to extra holes they went. The playoff was tense: birdie chances came and went, bogeys were exchanged on the 2nd, nerves were shredded… and eventually a par on the 3rd was enough to seal it for Ned. A truly epic struggle, and probably great entertainment for anyone not emotionally involved.

Carnoustie is a rather unforgiving venue for the 4 ball better ball final, but this is indeed where the final was agreed to be held with Euan Crabb and Hammy Hamlyn matching up against Sam Rose and Tony Lang. Both have been runners up in the past, so history was about to be made for one pair and the Buddon Course at Carnoustie was about to play its part. Conditions were as benign as they could be for ‘Carnasty’, but the course was in pristine condition as ever. Roadworks had caused a slight panic whilst everyone assembled on the first tee awaiting Hammy to arrive but, just in time, his figure was spotted marching purposefully to the tee. An early lead from Sam and Tony was quickly overturned and built upon by Euan and Hammy. The putting prowess of Hammy was too much for Sam and Tony on this occasion as Euan and Hammy got to the winning position where it was handshakes all round in what was a great contest played in the true spirit of golf.
